Self-Reporting Continuing Education Credit

Modified on Mon, 28 Oct, 2024 at 5:40 PM

AIA Architect and International Associate members are required to complete 18 learning units (LUs) of continuing education every year. Of those 18 LUs, at least 12 must be for approved health, safety, and welfare (HSW) courses. Architect Emeritus members are required to complete one (1) LU each membership year. Associate and Allied members do not have a continuing education requirement. Members may self-report learning occurring outside the network of registered AIA CE providers. Self-reported learning programs are only eligible for LU/elective credit unless the program is delivered by a government agency or is a ‘for-credit’ course through an accredited college or university. Self-reports should be submitted online.

A self-report form can be submitted for:

  • Earning credit for attendance of a non-AIA provider course
  • Completing studies (including the LEED exam), writing a book, or performing research/teaching related to the profession
  • Volunteering in the related profession

  1. Click, ‘Self-Reports' on the right'

  1. Complete the entire online self-report form
  2. Click, ‘Submit’

Once submitted, each self-report will be reviewed within 10 business days. If approved, the activity will be added to the AIA transcript. There is a character requirement for the 'description of activity' and the 'learning statement'. The self-report will not be submitted successfully unless it fits the character   requirement.
