Advisory Opinion Letters for O and P Visa Consultations

Modified on Tue, 29 Oct, 2024 at 5:47 PM

This document outlines the process for managing member requests for O and P Visa letters. The Member Support Center will field all requests for Advisory Letters related to O and P Visa Consultations to ensure proper handling. Member Support will handle communication and coordinate the preparation of the advisory letter once all required information is received from the applicant or applicants’ representation. Requests should be directed to membersupport@aia.org

AIA provides this service exclusively for AIA members. Letters will not be provided to lapsed members or non-members. Nonmembers will be encouraged to join AIA to receive this benefit.

Beginning January 2025, AIA will charge members for this service. The fee for standard delivery is $250 (30 days). The fee for rush delivery is $400 (14 days).

Members requesting an advisory letter must provide the following information:

  • Member number
  • Resume or curriculum vitae (CV)
  • USCIS Service Center location

 The individual stated as the applicant on the letter must be the member, not the firm or individual sponsoring the applicant’s visa.

If the applicant is not an AIA member, the following response will be sent to the attorney responsible for applicant or the applicant themselves, depending on who sends the request:

Dear {name},

Our records indicate that {applicant name} is not currently an AIA member.

I strongly recommend that your client (you) consider joining AIA. Membership offers access to a wide range of educational opportunities and member forums. Additionally, with the upcoming changes to our process beginning in January 2025, if they require a letter in the future, they will need to be a member beforehand to request one.

Information about AIA membership categories and membership benefits can be found at

aia.org/membership.

If you require assistance with joining or need any other information, contact the Member Support Center at (800) 242-3837, option 2.

Sincerely,

{signatory}

Upon validating the required information and membership, the letter will be provided to the requestor.
